During the first three decades of the twentieth century, Miguel García de la Cruz was Gijon's council architect. In this position, he designed the promenade 'Muro de San Lorenzo', Carmen Square, etc. At the same time, he designed numberless public and private buildings in which his evolution from modernism to rationalism is made visible.
