In 1622, the Portuguese cartographer Pedro de Teixeira received the royal commission to map the coast of the Iberian Peninsulae, a task that he finished in 1630, the date of the 'Descripción de las costas y puertos de España', manuscript of the National Library, without any maps, published in 1910.

Part of the maps, which were considered to be lost, were found to be in a manuscript from the University of Uppsala, the Compendivm Geographicvm, that today sees the light coinciding with the celebration of the 19th International Congress of Cartographical History in Madrid.
