Marcelo Delgado was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He started painting when he was a child, guided by his father.
Upon finishing his 'Bachiller' education, he attended (he said 'with very little discipline') numberless painting courses at the Fine Arts School of Buenos Aires. He finally graduated in Advertising and started working as an illustrator and freelance graphic designer until he joined his first agency as Art director.
In 1973 he moved to Spain, carrying out his role in Madrid as Art director and creative director in several agencies, obtaining throughout his professional career several awards, both national and international.
The turn of the century suggested to him the end of a cycle, and he started paying special attention to painting, which eventually took up more time and space.
His art is figurative, making use of unique materials and formats. He is interested in objects, details and shapes as story-tellers, as precious instruments that reflect emotions, feelings and life events. It is in this state when ordinary objects become a thing of beauty.
In this exhibition, Marcelo presents to us, in a very personal way, a tour through the kings and queens of Spain, from the Catholic Monarchs to Alfonso XIII. Using a mixed technique, consisting of engraving, collage, and watercolour, he shows us the characters in a moment of rest from the posing for the original painting. In this way, he subtly represents the characters' personality traits.
This was the last series he painted throughout the years 2017 and 2018. Marcelo left us on 23 September 2018.
