The Isle of Flowers, 'one of the places chosen for the trash to smell' (Ilha das Flores, Jorge Furtado, 1989), was the title selected for one of my first paintings. It would mark the general feeling of the entire selection I present in this exhibition: my frustration about our excessive consumer society, which exploits natural resources and creates inequality and injustice.
Making use of oil painting, and through loose strokes, generally with no previous sketch, I aim to represent the feelings that I have for the society in which I live. For this, I represent scenes from my surroundings, or what I find in mass media. I combine elements and colours which do not correspond to reality, but that are personal intuitions in which reality, feelings, memories and chance melt together.
